With all of the other challenges that have faced parents throughout time immemorial, this is a parenting burden that is unique to our age. How to manage the lure and fascination that technology is to our children when, if we're honest, we're barely managing it for ourselves!
Technology brings the world effortlessly into our children's lives in so many wonderful ways: educational opportunities, science culture, and entertainment. Our children can discover things in moments that would have taken many of us hours, possibly days, not to mention a trip to the library or museum to learn. We had to get out into your neighbourhoods, visit interesting and stimulating places, read books, and talk to people.
What a tremendous win… for us!
We are raising the “screen generation”. These young lives are literally being lived through that device that, for many, lives in their hands. So new is this phenomena that the greater effects have yet to be identified.
Let's get serious about how technology is impacting our kids… and what you can do about it!

Involving your child in athletics from an early age will provide her with any number of huge benefits that can be nurtured and developed throughout her life.
Team spirit and cooperation, coordination, leadership, physical and mental strength, as well as invaluable interpersonal skills. Additionally, kids learn to cope with frustration and loss while developing the all-important skill of fortitude and perseverance… even when the game may be going entirely in the other team's favor.
With the numerous challenges that come with sport, so do the essentials to building confidence and competence, particularly in the face of loss.
This is where they learn the importance of taking care of their bodies and how to make choices that support their health and fitness. These are lessons that are invaluable as they grow into adulthood with healthy bodies and minds.
Learn how you can nurture your child's athleticism and aspirations, while supporting a healthy, positive and confident attitude towards their sport, their teammates and their opponents, as well as themselves.

We all want to instill a can-do attitude in our children so that they can take on new challenges and learn to believe in their own competency regardless of the situation.
It is through a sense of competence that self-confidence developed. Children develop confidence, not because we parents consistently tell them how wonderful they are, but through their independent achievements, large and small. Words of encouragement are important, but words of praise ring empty unless they refer to a specific effort, achievement or ability, particularly if newly acquired or nurtured.

These are the blossoming middle years of your child's development. So many changes and such a wonderful age to parent!
Your child is eager for more independence and he's proving so much more capable of contributing to the home and family. Routines can be much more easily managed and followed, responsibilities can be better shared and, really, it can seem a very pleasant and settled time in the household.
However, despite the growing competency and sense of responsibility of your child, your youngster still needs a lot from you. Your supervision is still required and your guidance still incredibly significant during this stage of development.
Learn how to do your best to bring out the best in your child during these important, and still very formative middle years.
